"The king" review

By far one of the most interesting periods in English history was the reign of henry v, hence why Netflix choose to use it as an inspiration for the movie.

This movie is the perfect embodiment of the struggle that the older son had to face as he found himself divided between his father's ancient quarrels and his goals of a united England.
Henry V found himself isolated from all his family had cut all ties with them choosing to live the life of a normal citizen and relinquishing all his privileges; due to this his father was forced to cut him as the rightful successor to the throne choosing his younger brother instead, a brother that had and an incredible amount of anger and resentment towards Henry which led to a dispute among them, has the younger brother had been picked to lead the army onto the battle.
having heard this Henry as the older brother decided to protect his younger sibling by taking his place in battle, this led to him challenging the son of the opposition into a duel, they would fight instead of their armies, however, despite having won that fight the younger insisted in going to war and ended up dying.
Due to their father being fatefully ill and the heir is chosen to inherit the throne dead Henry was forced to visit his father on death bed and has a saying wish his father solved their quarrels and pronounced him king.
Although Henry had just been pronounced king many agree to it given his past choices in life and therefore plotted against him wishing to defeat him and overthrow the crown.
has the news of the new king of England spread around the world many began to send their presents as a sign of respect however the Delfin of France decided to the opposite and engaged in provocations and even attempted to send assassins after Henry V, however as that didn't work they were forced to go at war since England couldn't leave such acts unanswered for as it would be seen as an act of cowardness.
After the war initiated Henry V discovered some traitor and had them executed, however, this led to him becoming highly suspicious of those around him forcing him to promote those that were once his companions in misery to have them as counselors, the most notorious one is sir john a once feared warrior that had become just a drunk wandering the streets.
however, this was seen as an act of despair and this was due to the fact it was a situation without precedents.
after recruiting sir john, Henry V and his army sailed to France to attack, had the best defense is a good attack, sir john was there has a counselor since he was the only one that Henry could trust when it really came to it.
Even in battle it was sir john's advice that granted the English army

the victory in battle however this wasn't until Henry attempted to persuade the Delfin

into a 1 v 1 fight, has he had once done, however as this had failed they were forced to go into battle while being under a complete disadvantage and if it wasn't for the advice of sir john they

would have lost the entire war. but in an unfortunate turn of events, he ended up crying from being crushed to death between all the mud and fighting that was occurring.
And with this Henry V was left with a victory, a submission fr

om the France king and his daughter's hand in marriage, but none of this could atone for the death of his dear friend not even his conquering over the ideal of a peaceful and united England, as It all seemed for nothing without those he trusted by his side.

After watching the film and understanding their motivation I retained the idea that it was something that was beautifully thought and executed, but this was only possible due to the incredible amount of research done to ensure that the facts and the events were as truthfully as humanly possible giving us the understanding of English history, the way they lived and even the introduction of french in the high society has the language used for law and business, and that was something that resonated with our theme.
